My holiday

During one of the holidays I went to Whitley Bay beach with my Mum,sister, my mum's friend and niece. It was a hot day and I was really excited! When we drove down Rachel (my little sister) and Tamson (my friends niece) were singing and would not stop!! They were driving me mad!! Eventually we got to the beach I jumped out of the car, I got my suncream on and we all walked down to the beach. As soon as we were on the sand I legged it to the sea, while my Mum and Denise (my mum's friend) were getting the towels out and lying them out on the sand. Meanwhile Rachel and Tamson are digging holes because they wanted to try and make a castle out of sand. After a while they kind of gave up and raced each other to the sea and soaked me as they they splashed into the sea!!After ages of playing in the sea, we
raced each other up to my Mum and Denise. I won!! Then we all decied what to do for lunch.Tamson and Rachel were hungry for a ice cream so we made our way back up the beach towards the starirs. After we all got an ice cream, we sat on the wall and chatted for a little bit, then made our way to the car. All us kids were really hungry so we made a little stop at MCdonalds and we all got a happy meal. Finally we went back home and Tamson, Rachel and me all went upstairs and played for ages. That was all about my trip to Whitley Bay Beach!!!

The Coast

Whitley Bay Beach

Once a rival to mighty Blackpool, the ever-popular seaside resort and residential town of Whitley Bay is an extension of the adjacent old fishing village of Cullercoats.
With a history dating back to the 12th century, Whitley Bay became popular in Victorian times, with its roots firmly established as a holiday resort.
Over 200 years ago Cullercoats had become a small bathing town, which gradually expanded north forming the larger town of Whitley Bay.
With it's close proximity to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and other nearby industrial towns, Whitley Bay was ideal, attracting holidaymakers and day-trippers escaping from the daily grind and toil of Victorian industrial Britain.
Having bracing sea air, magnificent golden sands, Spanish City amusement park, arcades, cafés and shops, not forgetting an extensive selection of economic accommodation, Whitley Bay remained popular with families for decades.

With the arrival of budget foreign holiday packages becoming available in the 1960's, visitors left our Victorian resorts behind, preferring more guaranteed climates and exotic foreign
